Boston Cannons Draft Beebe in 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft

Hoboken, N.J. - May 28, 2009 - On Wednesday evening, Springfield College's Jake Beebe was selected by the Boston Cannons with the 40th pick of the 2009 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft on the campus of Stevens Institute of Technology. Beebe is the first player in program history to be drafted in the MLL Collegiate Draft and will now play in the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league in the country.

The Sudbury, Mass. native was taken with the fourth pick of the fifth round, as the 40th overall player selected. He was just the third Division III player taken in the draft, as the DIII Player of the Year, Tommy Kehoe from Gettysburg, went to Chicago with the 37th pick and Salisbury's Kylor Berkman went to Washington the very next pick.

Since the Pride's season has ended, post-season accolades have poured in for Beebe. He was named a USILA Honorable Mention All-American and was selected to play in the annual USILA North/South Senior All-Star Game. An ECAC All-Star First Team selection and the Pilgrim Lacrosse Player of the Year, Beebe turned in one of the most impressive offensive careers in program history.

He ended his career ranked in the top seven in the three major offensive categories as he tallied 127 goals (7th most), 126 assists (4th most), and 253 points (4th most) throughout his four years. His senior season was also one of the best single seasons in program history. His 46 assists were the second most for a player in a year, while his 87 points was the fourth-highest total for a player in one season.

The highlight of the season came in the NCAA Tournament First Round as Beebe broke an 18-year old NCAA Tournament record for points in a game. In the 21-4 win over Mount Ida, Beebe poured in seven goals and five assists for a record-breaking total of 12 points. The previous mark was held by Rich Franz of Ohio Wesleyan, who tallied 11 points in 1991 for Ohio Wesleyan in a win over Washington & Lee.
