Eaton's Second-Straight Player of the Year Honor Highlights Pilgrim League Yearly Awards
May 9, 2011 - Springfield College senior Mark Eaton has been named the Pilgrim Lacrosse League's Player of the Year for the second-consecutive season after leading Springfield to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth-straight year. Co-Coaches of the Year were named as Babson College’s Brendan Gorman and Clark University’s Jeff Cohen shared the honor, while Rookie of the Year honors went to Babson College’s first-year Ryan Dawidjan.
On Saturday afternoon Springfield captured its 10th Pilgrim Lacrosse League Championship as it topped second-seeded Babson College, 19-8. For the year, Eaton has gone 162-240 from the face-off “X”, totaling a 67.5 winning percentage. He has a team-best 114 ground balls and ranks in the top-10 nationally in both face-off percentage and ground balls per game.
Gorman led Babson to its Pilgrim League Tournament victory for the first time since 2001 as the Beavers entered the postseason as the second-seed. Cohen, who was named the Coach of the Year last year in his first season on the Clark sidelines, led the Cougars to a 6-8 record this season.
Dawidjan had a monster rookie season for the Beavers as he tallied a team-best 79 ground balls while causing 40 turnovers. He also added two goals and two assists from his longstick midfielder position.
