Trio Named 2008 ECAC Division III New England Men's Lacrosse All-Stars

June 18, 2008 - Three student athletes from the Pilgrim Lacrosse League were recently named as 2008 ECAC Division III New England Men's Lacrosse All-Stars.  Springfield's Chris Sharpe was named to the first team, while Lasell's Mark DeMieri, and Wheaton's Tom Ahern were chosen to the second team.

Sharpe was honored earlier this season as the Pilgrim Lacrosse League's Player of the Year. He finished his senior campaign with a team-best 40 caused turnovers to go along with 78 ground balls. He added four goals and an assist as well, tallying five points on the year. The preseason All-American was a major component in the Pride's defense that owned a 7.76 goals against average in 2008.

DeMieri was also named Pilgrim League player of the week twice during the season for his efforts and earned a spot on the Pilgrim League first team after finishing the year with a 6.59 GAA, 226 saves and a .695 save percentage.  Throughout the season DeMieri has been nationally ranked in the top five consistently in all of these categories in all of Division III.

Ahern's honor is his second of the spring, as he was also named to the Pilgrim League All-Conference first team. Ahern, who started all 17 games on defense and placed second on the team with 50 ground balls, provided a veteran presence to a defense that yielded seven goals or fewer a conference-high six times during league action. He grabbed at least three ground balls eight times and was penalized only twice all season, including not once in Pilgrim play. Dating back to his sophomore year, Ahern played 46 of a possible 48 games, making 43 starts.
