2009 Pilgrim League Postseason Awards Announced

May 4, 2009 - Springfield College senior Jake Beebe has been named the Pilgrim Lacrosse League's Player of the Year after leading Springfield to the NCAA Tournament this season for the second-straight year. For the eighth time in his career, MIT head coach Walter Alessi was chosen the league's Coach of the Year, while Rookie of the Year honors went to Springfield's first-year midfielder Mike Delia.

On Saturday afternoon (May 2), Beebe powered the Pride to its eighth Pilgrim Lacrosse League Championship as Springfield topped second-seeded Wheaton College, 12-7.  Beebe pumped in two goals and two assists in the championship game after totaling five goals and three assists in the semifinals.  For the year, Beebe, a preseason All-American, has posted 70 points and he has totaled 32 goals and 38 assists.

Springfield will host Mount Ida on Wednesday, May 6th at 7:00 pm in the NCAA Tournament First Round.

Alessi led MIT to the Pilgrim League Tournament for the first time since 2001 as the Engineers entered the postseason as the third-seed.  Coaching the Engineers since 1975, this is the eighth time that he has been honored as the top coach in the Pilgrim League.  Delia was impressive for the Pride in his first season.  The freshman midfielder tallied 13 goals and 10 assists to go along with 36 ground balls as he won just over 58% of his face-offs.
