Macchi and Sessa Named To 2010 NEILA All New England Second Team

Springfield, Mass. - Seniors Joe Macchi and Pete Sessa were recently honored for their play this season by being named to the 2010 NEILA Division III All-New England Team. Both were selected to the second team, Macchi as a midfielder and Sessa as a longstick midfielder.

Much in part to their play, Springfield won its ninth overall and third consecutive Pilgrim Lacrosse League title this season. The Pride will now play in the NCAA Tournament as it hosts Widener on May 12 at 4:00 pm in a first round contest.

The Pride's leading goal scorer this season, Macchi earned Pilgrim League All-Conference First Team honors as well after a terrific year on Springfield's midfield. The Mahopac, N.Y. product ranks second on the team in points with 38 and routinely came through in the clutch as he pumped in five-game winning goals on the year. He found the back of the cage 30 times and took 131 shots, averaging just under eight a game.

A two-time first team all-conference honoree, Sessa had a solid senior campaign for the Pride. A preseason honorable mention All-American, the Newton, Mass. native picked up 40 ground balls and was responsible for causing 14 turnovers. One of the team's quad-captains, his leadership on and off the field was a major factor in Springfield reaching its' third-straight NCAA Tournament.
