2010 Pilgrim League Tournament Set To Begin on Wednesday
Springfield, Mass. - Starting on Wednesday afternoon, the Pilgrim Lacrosse League Tournament will commence with Springfield, Wheaton, Babson, and MIT all vying for the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Springfield won the regular-season title for the third-consecutive season and will be the top seed in the tournament. Wheaton and Babson both finished the regular season with 5-2 conference records, but due to Wheaton's win over Babson in the regular season, Wheaton received the second seed, while Babson is seeded third. MIT rounds out the four-team field as it registered a 4-3 conference record in 2010.
No. 2 Wheaton will host No. 3 Babson in the first semifinal of the day at 4:00 pm. In their previous meeting this season, Wheaton opened up a 10-goal lead midway through the third quarter before fending off Babson College, 15-9 at Mirrione Stadium on April 10. Billy McNamara paced Wheaton with four goals and a pair of assists in the win.
No. 1 Springfield will take on No. 4 MIT at 7:00 pm on Wednesday night in the second semifinal on Springfield's Stagg Field. When these teams played on April 10, an 8-1 scoring advantage in the first half helped power Springfield to a 16-4 win over MIT. Kyle Gable led all scorers with five points on four goals and an assist while seven of his teammates each recorded at least two points.
The Championship will held at 1:00pm on Saturday May 8, 2010 at
the site of the highest remaining seed.
