Cavanaugh Named Pilgrim Player of The Week
Springfield, Mass. - May 5, 2009 - Springfield senior Pat Cavanaugh was named the Pilgrim Lacrosse League Player of the Week after leading the Pride to its second-straight Pilgrim League Championship.
The senior led the squad with 10 goals and two assists, including the game-winner in the title game. He finished with six goals and two assists for eight points in the win over Babson in the semifinals, and then added four goals in the championship game against Wheaton. Cavanaugh made his shots count as he scored 10 goals on just 14 shots in two games last week.
Three teams have qualified for postseason play this upcoming week. Both Wheaton and Mass. Maritime will play in the ECAC New England Tournament, while Springfield will play in the NCAA Tournament.
Wheaton will host Becker, while Mass. Maritime will travel to take on Plymouth State on Wednesday. Also on Wednesday, Springfield will host Mount Ida in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
